Our Story

Somebody should put
the claims against a meter.

Electric bikes are sold on spec sheets and bought on faith. We're building the site that checks the spec sheet.

Why EbikeTested exists.

A bike claims 60 miles of range. A motor claims 750 watts. A battery claims 800 cycles. A lock claims to laugh at power tools. Somebody should charge the pack full, load the bike up, start the timer, and write down what actually happens. That is the site we are building.

The e-bike review world mostly doesn't work that way. The biggest dedicated outlets review manufacturer-supplied units, and some charge brands fees around coverage. Reviews end when the embargo lifts, so nobody publishes what breaks at month nine. And when brands collapse, and in 2025 the category's former number one brand went bankrupt on top of its customers, sites funded by brand money are structurally unable to warn you it might happen again.

EbikeTested is the fourth site in the "…Tested" family, built on the same rules as its siblings: buy at retail with our own money, test with instruments against a disclosed rubric, publish the failures next to the winners, and never take money for a score. We run affiliate links, we say exactly which ones pay us on every article, and we don't sell bikes.

One thing we want to be unmissably clear about, because this industry has trained riders to check: the lab is spinning up right now, and nothing has been scored yet. Our methodology page keeps a plain, current statement of what has and hasn't been tested. No claim of testing will ever appear here before the test has actually run.

0 Tests published so far. The lab is spinning up, and we say so.

What we believe

The measurement is the review

Adjectives are cheap. Discharge curves, attack timers, and scale readings are not. Every number we publish will come with the conditions it was measured under, so it can be challenged and reproduced.

Safety outranks commission

Battery fires are the anxiety at the center of this category, and they concentrate in uncertified packs. Only gear with verified safety certification (UL 2271, UL 2849, or EN 15194) will ever be linked or recommended here, whatever it pays.

Failures are the product

The motor that dies at month nine, the pack that measures short, the brand that stops answering warranty email: documenting that is the entire point. When something we recommended starts failing, the review changes.

What's on the bench first.

Phase one needs no bike at all: an e-bike lock lab with timed destruction tests, and a battery and charger lab with logged capacity measurements and certification checks. Then retail-bought bikes, one at a time, each kept as a long-term test mule with a public failure log. Follow the lab notes to watch it happen in order.
